Overview

The AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile, or LRASM, is a precision-guided maritime-strike weapon manufactured by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control for the US Navy and US Air Force. It adapts the low-observable airframe of the AGM-158B JASSM-ER land-attack missile to the anti-ship mission, replacing dependence on continuous external targeting updates with an onboard sensor and guidance suite intended to locate, classify and select a ship within a target area.

LRASM addresses the need to attack defended surface forces where satellite navigation, communications and data links may be disrupted. Its operational concept emphasizes passive detection, sensor fusion, autonomous terminal targeting and reduced observability rather than high speed. The missile is subsonic, and its ability to penetrate modern shipboard air defenses therefore depends substantially on route selection, signature reduction and the effectiveness of its onboard targeting logic.

Official performance data remain limited. An often-cited assessment places the AGM-158C-1's range beyond 200 nautical miles, or approximately 370 km, but the US government has not published an authoritative maximum range. Seeker details, terminal behavior, accuracy and warhead mass are also not publicly established. An extended-range AGM-158C-3 is under development with improved communications and survivability features, according to Naval Technology.
