Paris-based startup building AI-guided drone interceptors and autonomous air-defense software, operationally deployed in Ukraine since 2024.
Background
Alta Ares was founded in 2024 in Paris by Hadrien Canter, who serves as co-founder and CEO.
The company emerged from the recognized gap between legacy missile-based air defense and the low-cost drone threat densities seen in contemporary conflicts, targeting that gap with software-defined, AI-guided interceptors.
The core product line comprises four named systems: Pixel Lock, an embedded computer-vision module handling detection, tracking, and terminal guidance; Gamma, an autonomous interceptor guidance stack; X-Lock, optimized for short-range drone interception; and Black Bird, designed for faster aerial threats.
Together these form a layered autonomous AI stack also applicable to ISTAR missions. The company also describes a Tactical Protection Dome concept integrating Thales and Echodyne radars with its guidance software.
Alta Ares goes to market through direct contracts with allied militaries and via platform partnerships, most notably a June 2026 MoU with Airbus Defence and Space to integrate its systems into Airbus air-defense command-and-control networks.
A Picogrid integration partnership has also been reported. Headcount is not publicly disclosed.
