Background
Altana was founded in Brooklyn in 2018 by Evan Smith, Swartz, and Tehranian. The company's founding thesis was that no authoritative, dynamic map of the global supply chain existed, and that AI could construct one from fragmented trade, logistics, and corporate data.
Its core product is Atlas, a continuously updated AI knowledge graph of supply-chain relationships worldwide.
Layered on top is the Value Chain Management System, a workflow platform that lets users run supplier screening, forced-labor and sanctions compliance, tariff-exposure modeling, and supply-shock scenario analysis against the Atlas graph. Meta has publicly cited Altana's use of Llama models within its value-chain management layer.
