Anduril Omen

Anduril Omen is a runway-independent Group 3 autonomous aircraft co-developed with EDGE Group, combining vertical launch and recovery with wing-borne cruise and a hybrid-electric powertrain.

Overview

Omen is a hybrid-electric, hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle co-developed by US defense-technology company Anduril Industries and the United Arab Emirates' state-owned EDGE Group. The approximately 3 m-tall tail-sitter launches and recovers vertically before rotating into horizontal, wing-borne flight. This configuration is intended to combine runway independence with the endurance and payload capacity normally associated with larger fixed-wing uncrewed aircraft.

Anduril describes Omen as a Group 3 aircraft capable of carrying "hundreds of pounds" of payload and being deployed by two people from ships, shore positions or austere sites. EDGE presents it as a long-range, heavy-payload platform designed for multi-mission use in communication-degraded or denied environments, although neither company has published its endurance, range, speed, ceiling or precise payload capacity.

Omen's significance rests principally on its proposed operating model. It is designed to perform long-endurance missions without the runways and established airbases required by larger medium-altitude, long-endurance aircraft. The program also combines US-UAE co-development, planned production in the UAE and a launch order for 50 systems, moving it beyond a purely conceptual announcement even though no first-flight, delivery or operational-service date is publicly established.
