Atomus (Atomus Corporation)
Atomus is a San Francisco-based cybersecurity compliance company that helps small and mid-sized US defense contractors meet mandatory Pentagon cybersecurity standards like CMMC, NIST 800-171, and DFARS 7012.
Background
Atomus was founded in 2019 by Joel Joseph and Kaushal Saraf, with the company's own materials stating it began as part of a Department of Defense initiative to research and develop cybersecurity technology for the DoD, before pivoting toward helping the broader defense-industrial base achieve compliance with federal cybersecurity mandates.
The company is a technology-driven managed security service provider (MSSP) purpose-built for aerospace and defense, offering both automated compliance software (its Atomus Compliance Portal, generating system security plans and tracking quarterly reviews) and human compliance-support services. As of mid-2025, Atomus announced it had achieved CMMC Level 2 certification with a perfect 110/110 score in its own third-party assessment, and the company says it works with more than 100 defense-industrial-base companies navigating the CMMC certification process.
