Background
Kepler Communications was founded in 2015 by a group of graduate students in Toronto, Ontario, initially focused on small-satellite radio-frequency communications before pivoting to optical inter-satellite link (OISL) technology as its core differentiator.
The company has since scaled into a vertically integrated satellite telecom operator with an in-house production facility.
Kepler's flagship product is the Kepler Network, a LEO optical data-relay constellation designed to provide persistent, high-bandwidth connectivity for Earth-observation satellites, defense platforms, and scientific missions.
By mid-2026, the company had commissioned Tranche 1 of the constellation and activated distributed on-orbit compute across the on-orbit nodes — a capability announced in March 2026.
Kepler sells connectivity-as-a-service and hosted-payload capacity to government and commercial space operators.
It targets defense and intelligence customers requiring real-time downlink and cross-link for space assets, while also pursuing scientific and commercial EO operators needing low-latency relay. The company describes itself as a global organization but has not disclosed current headcount publicly.
