Background
Kraken Technology Group was founded in 2020 in the United Kingdom, originating from Vector Racing, a high-performance marine engineering background.
CEO Mal Crease leads the company; other founders are not publicly named. The firm developed its core competency around high-speed uncrewed hull design combined with modular mission payloads.
The current product line spans four named systems: the K3 Scout, a modular USV now in Royal Navy service; the K4 Manta, a surface-subsurface hybrid developed with L3Harris targeting special operations; the K5 Kraken, a concept-stage optionally crewed heavy-payload speedboat; and the K7 Sabre, introduced in later 2025–2026 reporting. The K3 Scout integrates Auterion autonomy software.
Kraken sells direct to defense ministries and SOCOM-style commands via OTA and competitive procurement channels.
Manufacturing is scaling across UK facilities and a Hamburg series-production line stood up under a Rheinmetall joint venture, Rheinmetall Kraken GmbH, targeting initial capacity of 200 K3 Scout units per year, expandable to 1,000.
