Background

MiTAC Advance Technology Corp (English press also 'MiTAC Advanced Technology'; Taiwan defense records cite the affiliated MiTAC Information Technology Corp, 神通資訊科技) is the advanced-/defense-systems vehicle of the Lien Hwa MiTAC Group — the MiTAC-Synnex conglomerate (聯華神通集團), one of Taiwan's three largest IT groups, founded by Matthew Miau (苗豐強). It is not a startup but a corporate systems-integrator: group disclosures show it chaired by the same executives who run MiTAC Information Technology Corp, the systems-integration arm whose lineage traces to MiTAC's 1974 founding as Taiwan's first microcomputer company. Sammy Chiu is named President.

The wider group spans servers (TYAN, MiTAC Computing), IT distribution (Synnex Technology International), automotive/GPS (Mio, Navman, Magellan) and — notably — rugged computing and defense electronics via affiliate Getac Holdings (TSE:3005), a 1989 GE Aerospace joint venture that seeds MiTAC's defense DNA. In December 2022 a cross-agency task force (MND, MOEA, NCSIST) named MiTAC a national-team developer in two of five drone categories: surveillance UAVs (with CIRC and Qisda) and target-acquisition UAVs (with Strong Engineering Consulting). It co-leads the state-backed TEDIBOA drone alliance and markets the MiUAV rotary platform.
