NordSpace is a Canadian sovereign launch startup developing the Taiga suborbital and Tundra orbital rockets, the Atlantic Spaceport Complex in Newfoundland, and dual-use smallsat systems.
Background
Founded in 2022 by Rahul Goel in Markham, Ontario, NordSpace was built from the outset around the thesis that Canada lacks indigenous launch capability and must develop one for sovereignty and security reasons.

Competitive position
NordSpace's most direct structural competitor is any entity capable of providing sovereign Canadian launch — a field that currently has no other domestic orbital launch provider at an equivalent stage, giving NordSpace a first-mover position in that specific niche. Against SpaceX rideshare (Transporter missions), NordSpace cannot match cadence, pricing maturity, or proven orbital delivery, but it offers Canadian sovereign scheduling and data-security arguments that SpaceX cannot address for DND payloads.
Against Rocket Lab, which serves small-satellite customers from New Zealand and Virginia, NordSpace's edge is Canadian territorial jurisdiction; its weakness is that Rocket Lab's Electron is fully operational while Tundra is still in development.
