Background

Northrop Grumman Corporation was formed in 1994 through the merger of Northrop Corporation (founded 1939) and Grumman Corporation (founded 1930); it is headquartered in West Falls Church, Virginia and led by Chair, CEO and President Kathy Warden.

The company spans four segments — Aeronautics, Defense, Mission Systems and Space — and is the fifth-largest U.S. federal government contractor by revenue.

Its most Europe/Ukraine-relevant program is the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), a sensor-fusing air-and-missile-defense command layer that reached Full Operational Capability in Poland's WISŁA medium-range air defense system in December 2025, making Poland the first NATO ally to fully field it.

Northrop's other flagship programs include the B-21 Raider stealth bomber (which turned operating-income positive in early 2026), the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile replacement, Triton autonomous surveillance drones (recently committed to by NATO), and space systems including the Mission Robotic Vehicle.
