Waterloo, Ontario startup building physics-based hardware assurance tools to detect tampering, counterfeits, and cyberattacks in defense and critical-infrastructure supply chains.
Background
Palitronica was co-founded in 2019 by Sebastian Fischmeister, a University of Waterloo professor, who built the company out of his research group focused on hardware-level trust and supply-chain integrity. Fischmeister serves as CEO.
The core product line centers on the Anvil Security Checkpoint, a physics-based hardware testing system that validates electronic components against tampering and counterfeiting.
The broader Palisade suite and the PowerFuzzer software tool extend coverage to software-layer attack surfaces. Applications span Canadian Armed Forces avionics, land vehicles, tele-operated hazardous-duty robots, and nuclear-energy infrastructure.
Palitronica sells primarily through government project contracts and industry partnerships rather than commercial channels. Named partners include Continental, Arcfield Canada, Sera4, Bruce Power, and the University of Waterloo.
Arcfield Canada has embedded Palitronica in Team Northern Sentry. Headcount figures conflict across sources: Y Combinator lists six staff; Communitech reported 11 hardware and software engineers during active DND demonstrator work.
