Background

Skyeton was founded in 2006 in Kyiv by Oleksandr Stepura as a maker of ultralight and light-sport aircraft, notably the K-10 Swift. Russia's 2014 seizure of Crimea pushed the firm toward unmanned systems, and it developed the Raybird-3 (designated ACS-3) — a small, catapult-launched fixed-wing platform built for long-duration reconnaissance. The Raybird passed Ukrainian state testing and entered Armed Forces service in 2018, well before the full-scale invasion, and is now one of the AFU's key long-range ISR assets.

Skyeton reports more than 500 staff, over 100 engineers and 1,000-plus systems produced. Ukraine's martial-law rules — an export ban plus a 25% markup cap that blocks recovering development costs — squeeze domestic economics, which is precisely why Skyeton pushed production abroad. Major customers & contracts

The anchor customer is Ukraine's military: the AFU had ordered 75-plus Raybird intelligence systems between February 2022 and May 2024, and the drone is one of its key long-range reconnaissance platforms. Skyeton is now building a foreign order book aimed at NATO buyers.

Poland's Allies became the official Raybird distributor (2025); the UK JV eyes the British Army's Project Corvus, a Watchkeeper Mk1 successor; and France's Harmattan AI, Denmark's Quadsat, and Germany's INTEC and ONBERG have signed partnerships or letters of intent. Raybird sits in the small, catapult-launched, long-endurance ISR class — NATO Class I — competing with systems like AeroVironment's JUMP-20/Puma, Textron's Aerosonde, Elbit's platforms and Watchkeeper-type UAS, plus Germany's Quantum Systems and fellow Ukrainian makers such as Ukrspecsystems (Shark, PD-2). Skyeton's pitch is endurance-per-dollar from a combat-hardened design: 28-plus hours aloft, ~2,500 km range, a 5,500 m ceiling and a data link to ~220 km, at a system price it argues undercuts Western equivalents.

The firm claims only about five companies globally match its weight-to-endurance ratio — a self-assessment, not an independent benchmark. Its real edge is a live operational feedback loop from the front and rapid upgrades (SATCOM, interceptor-detection, a hydrogen-hybrid variant) that Western primes on peacetime cycles struggle to match.

Skyeton says the Raybird fleet has logged more than 300,000 combat flight hours — a figure carried by CEPA but sourced from the company, so treat it as reported rather than independently verified. The platform's job is deep reconnaissance and artillery/strike fire-correction: EO/IR sensors, a laser target designator and a live FPV feed feed targeting for Ukrainian fires, alongside maritime surveillance.

Wartime opacity is real — sortie and hours claims can't be audited. Russia takes the firm seriously enough to have destroyed its Kyiv office in the May 2026 mass strikes; production had been pre-dispersed, so output reportedly continued. Recent survivability work — an interceptor-drone detection module — reflects a threat environment where long-endurance ISR aircraft are increasingly hunted.
