Background

Vantor traces its lineage through Maxar Intelligence and, before that, DigitalGlobe — the commercial satellite operator whose imagery has underpinned decades of US government mapping, ISR, and open-source conflict monitoring. In 2023, private-equity firm Advent International took Maxar Technologies private in an approximately $6.4 billion all-cash deal and subsequently split the company into two units: Maxar Intelligence (imagery/analytics) and Maxar Space Systems (satellite manufacturing).

In October 2025, the two units retired the Maxar name entirely, rebranding as Vantor and Lanteris Space Systems respectively — a move the company frames as the culmination of a multi-year transformation from a pure-play imagery vendor into an end-to-end "spatial intelligence" company fusing sensor data across space, air, and ground.

Vantor is led by CEO Dan Smoot, who joined in November 2023 after previously running Riverbed Technology and holding senior roles at Salesforce and Cisco.

Alongside the rebrand, Vantor launched Tensorglobe, an AI-powered platform intended to fuse imagery and other sensor feeds (electro-optical, SAR, and more) into a unified intelligence picture for defense, intelligence, and commercial customers.
