The 2S5 Giatsint-S is a Soviet 152 mm self-propelled gun on a tracked, turretless chassis, described by the US Army as an army-level artillery system.

Overview

The 2S5 mounts a long-barreled 152 mm 2A37 gun externally on a tracked carrier. The US Marine Corps equipment card lists a five-person crew, 30 rounds onboard and a conventional firing range of 28.4 km. The open mount accommodates the gun and its loading equipment without an enclosed rotating turret.

Russia and Ukraine employ the system in combat. Belarus also retains it in service, according to the US Army's Worldwide Equipment Guide. Ukrainian units operate both an inherited fleet and captured Russian vehicles.

The Giatsint's logistical requirements extend beyond its tracked carrier. OSC/RUSI supply-chain research identifies dedicated ammunition for the Giatsint family. Compatible projectile-and-charge supply is therefore central to maintaining its long-range fire capability.
