Beriev A-100 Premier

Russia's next-generation airborne early warning and control prototype, designed around the Il-76MD-90A airframe and Vega's rotating Premier phased-array radar.

Overview

The Beriev A-100 Premier, also known as Izdeliye PM or Premier-476, is a Russian airborne early warning and control aircraft intended to replace the Soviet-designed A-50 and upgraded A-50U Mainstay fleet. It combines the Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A transport airframe with a rotating radome, a phased-array surveillance radar and command-and-control equipment supplied by the Vega Radio Engineering Corporation.

The A-100 was conceived as a radar picket and airborne battle-management platform able to detect aircraft and surface targets, direct fighters, and exchange data with ground-based air-defense command systems. Russian sources have described it as a “multifunctional aviation complex for radar patrol and guidance,” but its advertised detection ranges and target capacity remain unverified. Although the full prototype first flew in November 2017, the programme repeatedly missed proposed service dates. As of 2026, no A-100 is operational, no serial production contract has been publicly established, and reports differ over whether development is frozen, cancelled or continuing at low tempo.
