Overview

The Saab A3-001 is an uncrewed fighter-drone concept developed through Sweden's Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP) programme. Saab unveiled a full-scale model at Malmen Air Base in Linkoping on 21 August 2026, presenting it as a stealthy, supersonic collaborative combat aircraft for operations alongside the JAS 39 Gripen E/F in heavily contested airspace. The concept places Sweden among the European states pursuing crewed-uncrewed combat-air teaming, although The Aviationist reported that the programme remained at the model and demonstrator-planning stage when unveiled.

Saab's immediate objective is not operational fielding but a rapid progression to flying hardware. The company set an accelerated 15-18 month development cycle beginning in August 2026 and plans to fly its first demonstrator within 18 months. The A1 prototype is expected to fly in 2027 to assess basic aerodynamics and flight characteristics, with later work intended to address an internal weapons bay.
