Overview

The 2B9 Vasilek, also transliterated Vasilyok or Vasylok, combines a mortar tube with an artillery-style wheeled carriage and automatic feed. The U.S. Army's FM 100-2-3 describes a split-trail mounting and four-round clips, allowing several rounds to leave the tube before the crew reloads. Its name means “cornflower.”

The family remains in Russian and Ukrainian service. The National Defence University of Ukraine records combat employment by both sides since 2014. Towed weapons serve alongside truck-mounted installations and mortars fitted to armored carriers.
