A Ukrainian jet-powered one-way strike weapon combining booster-assisted ground launch, cruise-missile-like speed and terminal operator guidance for attacks at ranges claimed to reach 1,000 km.

Overview

Bars is a Ukrainian long-range "missile-drone": a one-way strike weapon that combines features of a cruise missile and an uncrewed aircraft. A solid-fuel booster accelerates it from a ground launcher before a compact turbojet sustains flight. The unnamed private Ukrainian developer claims that current versions can exceed 700 km/h, carry a warhead of up to 60 kg and reach targets as far as 1,000 km away, although these performance figures have not been independently verified.

Ukraine developed Bars for deep strikes against military and war-supporting infrastructure in Russia and Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory. Its airframe became publicly visible only in December 2025, after the Museum of the Russo-Ukrainian War displayed an example and released launch footage. By September 2026, Defense Express described Bars as one of the most numerous missile-drone types in Ukraine's inventory.

Bars remains unusually opaque for an operational weapon. The developer's identity, production totals, unit cost, dimensions, midcourse navigation system and independently verified effectiveness are not publicly established. Ukraine and Germany have nevertheless moved to expand production through a European joint venture, with output reserved for Ukraine's Defence Forces.
