Fire Point says FP-1 drones struck the TANECO refinery, 1,100 km inside Russia

A disputed strike reached Russia's petrochemical core, and a reported toll of 12 to 13 dead marks the cost of Ukraine's expanding long-range campaign.

Ukrainian long-range drones struck the industrial zone at Nizhnekamsk in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan overnight into Monday, Aug. 10, more than 1,100 kilometers (680 miles) from the Ukrainian border, the BBC reported. Russian officials put the toll at 12 to 13 killed and 39 injured. Tatarstan leader Rustam Minnikhanov declared a period of mourning.

Ukraine's government had not commented on the attack. Fire Point asserted in a press statement that Ukrainian Defense Forces used its FP-1 drones against Tatneft's TANECO refinery, Slovo i Dilo wrote. Astra, an independent Russian Telegram channel, assessed eyewitness photos and video and suggested the drones may instead have hit Nizhnekamskneftekhim, the Sibur petrochemical complex.
