Shield AI's "AI pilot" — mission-autonomy software that lets an uncrewed aircraft sense, decide and act with no remote pilot, and that keeps flying when GPS and communications are jammed. It is the autonomy brain that makes mass-autonomy real: one operator, many machines, in exactly the contested conditions where a remote pilot and a GPS waypoint both fail.

Overview

Hivemind is Shield AI's platform-agnostic mission-autonomy software — what the company calls an "AI pilot" that "assumes the role of a human pilot or operator," running as edge AI onboard the aircraft. Its defining trait is that it does not depend on the two things that make drone swarms brittle: a pre-programmed GPS route and a live network link. Communications, satellite navigation and operator input are used if available but not required, so Hivemind can fly, reroute around obstacles, run collaborative tactics with peer and crewed aircraft, and swarm in GPS- and comms-denied environments. It is the fourth software entry in the BattlePolicy Lexicon's Command & Software domain, alongside Delta, the Maven Smart System and Lattice — and arguably the purest embodiment of "AI as deterrence," because it is the layer that turns a cheap airframe into an autonomous combatant.
