T-16 Armata recovery vehicle

T-16 Armata recovery vehicle: the 2021 test-institute visit, Army-2023 display, recovery equipment, conflicting crane figures and unresolved delivery record.

The armored repair and recovery vehicle developed for Russia's Armata family, documented at a test institute in 2021 and displayed at Army-2023.

Reference reviewed 30 September 2026.

Overview

T-16 is the support-vehicle member of the Armata program, alongside the T-14 tank and T-15 infantry fighting vehicle. UVZ deputy director Vyacheslav Khalitov identified all three within one development effort in 2017. Its role is to recover and repair armored vehicles and accommodate evacuated personnel. Khalitov interview; Test-institute visit.

Rossiyskaya Gazeta's reporters inspected a T-16 at the 38th armored-vehicle test institute in August 2021. They described its crane, auxiliary manipulator, winches, cargo platform and repair equipment. Army Recognition and Radio Svoboda separately documented its Army-2023 display. T-16 therefore has a stronger public hardware record than a patent or model alone. Original visit report; Exhibition account; Independent exhibition reporting.

Regular accepted production, a current operational fleet and combat recovery missions remain unverified in the sources reviewed through September 2026. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's March 2021 statement planned a pilot batch for 2022; it did not confirm later delivery. Published crew and crane figures also conflict. This entry retains development status and keeps those discrepancies visible. Pilot-batch announcement.
