Ukraine's Deep-Strike Drones Reached Russia's Arctic Gas Heartland, 3,200 km Out
Ukraine's Special Operations Forces struck two gas condensate plants in Yamalo-Nenets on Sept. 9, a record 3,200 km out. The campaign has moved past oil refining into Gazprom's Arctic production core, 600 km from the LNG project Europe still buys from.
The record strike moved Kyiv's energy campaign beyond oil refining and brought the hub supplying most Russian LNG exports within reach.
Ukraine struck two gas condensate plants in Russia's Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug on Sept. 9, setting a distance record for the full-scale war. Ukraine's military placed the targets 3,200 kilometers (1,988 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
Special Operations Forces Deep Strike units identified the targets as the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky gas condensate processing plants. It was the first Ukrainian strike on Yamalo-Nenets, and the first on Russia's largest gas production complex. The previous distance record was roughly 2,500 kilometers, set by the July strike on the Omsk oil refinery.
