MAC OWL Sova

Overview

The MAC OWL Sova is a Ukrainian mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle developed by MAC HUB, described publicly as a Ukrainian-European manufacturer. Ukraine's Ministry of Defence codified the vehicle in spring 2026 after combat use, formally allowing it to be procured for the Defence Forces. The official Ukrainian defense-industry announcement described Sova as the most highly protected domestically produced armored vehicle in Ukrainian service.

Sova combines a V-shaped hull, 16 mm side armor and claimed STANAG 4569 Level 4a/4b mine protection with a ten-module electronic-warfare system intended to create a defensive envelope against first-person-view drones. This pairing reflects Ukraine's battlefield requirement for protection against both mines beneath a vehicle and inexpensive drones attacking from less-protected angles.

The name also applies to a related but distinct platform. The original Sova is an MRAP, while the later OWL-APC, also called Sova-APC, is the second vehicle in MAC HUB's OWL family. The APC completed trials and was approved for Ukrainian service on 13 August 2026, according to Mezha. Public reporting sometimes conflates the two vehicles, and detailed specifications for both remain limited.
