Russia fired 24 ballistic missiles at Ukraine's parcel network. Air defense stopped none of them.

The Aug. 5 barrage destroyed Ukraine's largest automated distribution center and a Nova Poshta sorting hub, as both sides now strike the other's commercial logistics on a dual-use rationale.

Ukraine's Air Force counted 24 Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles, four Zircon or Oniks missiles and 115 drones launched overnight into Aug. 5. Ukrainian forces downed or suppressed 98 drones and none of the ballistic missiles. Impacts were recorded at 26 locations, with debris at six more.

The barrage killed 17 people and injured 44 across Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who identified a brewery, building-material warehouses and civilian logistics among the sites hit.

Rozetka lost its Brovary distribution complex, the largest and most automated in its network, opened in 2017 and able to process more than 100,000 orders a day. The building cannot be restored, the retailer announced.

A Nova Poshta sorting center in Kyiv's Obolonskyi district was also destroyed. The parcel operator said Russia used cluster munitions there, killing two drivers for a partner transport firm and one contractor and injuring eight people. It will compensate customers the full declared value of destroyed shipments. Footage of one Iskander impact showed submunitions detonating in a pattern consistent with a cluster warhead, per Militarnyi.

Epicentr's logistics center on Viskozna Street burned down, and a missile destroyed the kilns at its ceramics plant, halting production. Tile manufacturing moves temporarily abroad, and reconstruction will take at least 18 months to two years, according to Epicentr. Warehouses of the Novus chain and facilities of Raben Group and Fozzy Group were also struck.

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed the logistics hubs served military supply, describing Nova Poshta's automated sorting complex as storing dual-use goods including drone-production items.

Ukraine has attacked almost two dozen Wildberries logistics centers since mid-July, accusing the Russian retailer of supplying drone parts and navigation gear to the military, The Moscow Times reported. Moscow denies it. A drone strike on Moscow-region warehouses killed five on Aug. 4, per the BBC.

Both sides now apply that rationale to the other's fulfillment network. The difference is interception. Kyiv estimates Lockheed Martin builds 60 to 65 PAC-3 interceptors a month against roughly 120 Russian ballistic missiles.

That gap may widen. A 90-person North Korean missile unit is deploying to Russia's Voronezh region with a planned allocation of 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers, Ukrainian military intelligence official Andrii Cherniak said, with the configuration to be settled at talks next month.
