Sky Fortress is a Ukrainian passive acoustic air-surveillance network that detects low-flying drones and missiles and cues air-defense units.
Overview
Sky Fortress combines distributed acoustic sensors with automated sound classification and track processing to support Ukrainian air defense. UNITED24 Media describes a network developed to detect threats flying through radar blind zones, with sensor information combined with radar data and passed to mobile fire teams.
Its role is surveillance and cueing. The network has no integral interceptor; its contribution to an engagement depends on the air-defense units receiving its information. Gen. James Hecker of US Air Forces in Europe described Ukrainian gun crews using tablet displays of approaching drone routes, according to Defense One.
Ukraine is the established operational user. Lithuania's Ministry of Defence announced a pilot deployment in October 2026 to evaluate detection and identification of low-flying uncrewed aircraft, as reported by LRT.
Sky Fortress also names the Ukrainian company associated with Sky Map, an air-defense command-and-control platform. Sky Map deployments must be distinguished from deployments of the acoustic network: Al Jazeera's account of Reuters reporting establishes US use of the software in Saudi Arabia but leaves the accompanying acoustic-sensor configuration unresolved.
