Overview
The Skyeton Raybird, designated ACS-3 in Ukrainian military service, is a petrol-powered, fixed-wing tactical unmanned aircraft system developed for missions requiring substantially greater endurance than typical electrically powered small drones. Skyeton advertises up to 24 hours of endurance, a 200+ km datalink and a 2,500 km autonomous-flight range, while some company-linked and secondary sources describe endurance exceeding 28 hours. Its modular payload options include electro-optical and medium-wave infrared sensors, mapping cameras, synthetic-aperture radar and radio-frequency location equipment.
A fielded system normally comprises three aircraft, a portable ground-control station, antennas, payloads and a catapult. The aircraft is launched without a runway and recovered by parachute onto an airbag. Pre-programmed flight, onboard autonomy and an optional satellite-communications link support operations beyond the normal line-of-sight control radius. The manufacturer also presents Raybird as a relay for other communications links.
Raybird originated as a dual-use platform but has become closely associated with Ukrainian wartime intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The military ACS-3 and upgraded ACS-3M coexist with the Raybird-3 name used in civil and export marketing. Ukraine is the only publicly identified operator; pre-war exports to unnamed customers in Asia, Africa and the Middle East have been claimed, but the countries, quantities and current status of those systems are not publicly established.
