Lima (Ukrainian EW system)

Lima is a Ukrainian ground-based electronic-warfare system designed to disrupt the satellite navigation of Russian drones, guided bombs and missiles.

Lima is a Ukrainian ground-based electronic-warfare system designed to divert satellite-navigation-dependent drones, guided bombs and missiles through interference with their navigation receivers.

Overview

Lima is a stationary electronic-warfare system developed by Cascade Systems, a Ukrainian defense startup registered in the United States, together with the Night Watch EW team. Politico identifies Night Watch as a unit of Ukraine’s Territorial Defence Forces and describes Lima’s role in disrupting the satellite navigation of incoming Russian weapons.

The system targets receivers using satellite-navigation services such as GPS and GLONASS. Its intended effect is to make a weapon lose navigation updates or accept false position information, reducing the likelihood that it reaches its intended target. The Defense News describes a modular network for stationary protection over wide areas.

Lima also forms much of Ukraine’s broader Pokrova navigation-spoofing network. Night Watch’s commander told Militarnyi that Lima accounted for more than 90% of Pokrova. The Kyiv Independent identifies the commander by the call sign Alchemist.

Its reported target set extends from Shahed attack drones and guided glide bombs to cruise and ballistic missiles. Public effectiveness figures largely originate with the developer and Ukrainian military personnel. The Kyiv Independent treats the reported Kinzhal results as claims requiring confirmation.
